Neals Yard Remedies Organic

For my facial treatments in Herne Bay, as well as manicures and pedicures, I use the natural, organic and well-being range called Neals Yard Remedies Organic. You can purchase any of the NYR Organic products from me at the salon in Herne Bay or through myNYR Organic website.

They are a British based and family run company who grow their own herbs and ingredients. At their eco-headquarters in Dorset England, they design, test and manufacture all the products. The eco-factory uses solar panels on the roof, clay flooring and high-level windows to keep cool; they even use rain water to flush the loos! The products are sold in their iconic blue jars and bottles which are also made in Britain, reducing the company's carbon footprint. The jars and bottles are also 100% recyclable. 

NYR Organic believe in beauty with NO nasties! The skin is the body's largest organ, and an active barrier between our bodies and the environment. It's well known that what you put on your skin ends up in your body - just think of nicotine patches. That's why they believe it's really important to know exactly what's in the products you use on your skin. Health is the most important thing to them. When formulating and making their products, they follow the precautionary principle - which is not using anything they believe could cause us or the planet harm!

What's NOT in their products?

They believe that what you leave out of a product can be as important as what you put in. Here's just a few of the ingredients you won't find in any of their products and why:

  • No silicones - they coat skin and impede its natural function
  • No mineral oils - derived from petroleum and have a tendency to block the skin
  • No parabens - these are linked to hormonal imbalances
  • No GM ingredients - not enough is known about possible long-term implications
  • No phthalates - it's reported they have toxic impact on humans and animal life
  • No propylene glycol - derived from petroleum
  • No animal testing - unnecessary and cruel
  • No DEA - associated with known carcinogens
  • No EDTA - (powerful metal chelator), and doesn’t biodegrade readily
  • No acrylates - derived from petroleum
  • No nano - not enough is known about its long term implications
  • No BHT - linked to breathing and lung impairment

What's in their products?

When it comes to ingredients, Neals Yard Remedies Organic pride themselves on honesty, integrity and transparency. They make their products with the maximum organic, natural and wild ingredients, and carefully select other functional ingredients (detergents, emulsifiers, surfactants etc) with a view to safety, efficacy and biodegradability. Their entire range makes use of high quality organic plant-based ingredients and they fully disclose the ingredient information with their customers, both online and, where space allows, on the packaging.

Neals Yard Remedies Organic Products are natural, safe and healthy for the body. They leave out all those bad ingredients that are unnecessary this means no; nano technology, genetically modified organisms, synthetic fragrances, EDTA, DEA, carbine or propylene glycol and no mineral oils or silicone. Products are NOT tested on animals and are suitable for vegetarians.

In Japanese, Reiki means 'Universal Life Force'. Reiki is a therapy that can be either hands on, or the hands are held just above the body. It is a gentle yet powerful healing modality and works on the same principles as Acupuncture and Yoga. Reiki works by the practitioner channelling the healing energy to the recipient, which in turn, activates the recipient’s own abilities to heal, whether it be on a physical, emotional or spiritual level.
